Director of the IEA Visits the Institute for Science and Ethics (IWE) at the University of Bonn

Miranda Metcalf, Director of the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University, visited the Institute for Science and Ethics (IWE) at the University of Bonn's Sustainable AI Lab to present on the research happening at the intersection of AI and art in the division of Expanded Media in the School of Art & Design.


Highlighting the work of graduate students in the Electronic Integrated Arts program in the Division of Expanded Media, Metcalf met with project leader Prof. Dr. Aimee van Wynsberghe and her team to share examples of artworks and philosophies being explored at Alfred.

Miranda in mid-gesture sitting behind laptop presentingWhile there, she was also introduced to Georgian-born, Amsterdam-based artist new media artist Irakli Sabekia and saw the installation of his responsive artwork at the IWE, titled "Network Proximity Atlas". The work collects real time data on internet speeds in various countries and repopulates a map of the world based on the outcomes, illustrating global connectivity disparities.
