Episode 2: Building Leaders On and Off the Field: The Developmental Role of DIII Athletics
Our coaches recruit across the globe to find prospective student-athletes who will be successful ‘on and off the field’ at Alfred University. With a mindset that we are teaching life lessons through sport, our coaches serve as mentors and teachers to our student-athletes. The coaches build team cultures and environments that aid in the growth of student-athletes’ leadership and personal developmental skills. Empirical studies show DIII student-athletes commonly excel in dimensions such as modeling positive behaviors, inspiring shared vision, challenging norms, enabling others to act, and encouraging motivation and hope in teammates. In this forum, you will hear from five of our coaches in a Q&A session moderated by our AVP for Student Experience, Athletics, & Recreation Deborah Steward.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, runs from 12:15 to 1:10 p.m. on Thursdays in Nevins Theater in Powell Campus Center and by Zoom.
