Bassoonist Susanne Chen is of Chinese heritage but was born and raised in German Switzerland. She started playing the bassoon at the age of 19, and studied privately with Manfred Sax in Zurich. After moving to New York, she continued her studies with Kim Laskowski and Marc Goldberg. Ms. Chen co-founded the woodwind quintet Eastern Winds, a winner of the Artist International Competition, and premiered the Sonatina for Contrabassoon & Piano by New York composer Sebastian Danila. She graduated with a Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes College of Music, and also holds Master's degrees in Computer Information Systems and Psychology.
