President Zupan: Alfred University’s venerable motto, ‘Fiat Lux,’ guides the future

Alfred University’s (AU) second president, Jonathan Allen, may have established “Fiat Lux” – Latin for “Let there be light” – as the motto for this 180-year-old institution, but its newest president, Mark Zupan, says it can guide the future of the institution as well. He made his comments at the University’s opening breakfast for faculty and staff in Ade Hall this morning (Tuesday).

Saxon football team to honor Julio Fuentes

A decade after a paralyzing injury during the 2006 season opener, former Alfred University football player Julio Fuentes will be recognized prior to the first game of the Saxons' 2016 campaign.

Freeman '01 wins national environmental educator award

Chris Freeman ’01, an Advanced Placement environmental science teacher at Kellam High School, Virginia Beach, VA, has won the 2015-16 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. The White House Council on Environmental Quality administers the award in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to “recognize outstanding teachers, kindergarten-12th grade, who employ innovative approaches to environmental education.”

AU to host dance residency

Alfred University’s Division of Performing Arts is hosting a dance residency with Wendy Whelan and Brian Brooks that will feature a master dance class and two performances of an evening-length dance concert, “Some of a Thousand Words,” at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, and Saturday, Sept. 3, in the Miller Performing Arts Theater on the University campus.
