Mechanical Engineering and Dance

During his senior year of high school, Eli Cordova applied to twelve universities, one of which was AU. Though he wasn’t certain where he wanted to go or what academic path he wanted to pursue, he knew he wanted to leave Texas to meet new people and experience different cultures. Alfred was the farthest university from his city of Brownsville, and the distance, he felt, made it all the more interesting. Eli’s decision to attend AU was also influenced by a phone call he received from someone in the Admissions Office. “The individual was extremely respectful and jolly,” Eli says, “and I felt welcomed.”

I really appreciate the people that I have gotten close to at Alfred University. These individuals have been comforting, resourceful and loving since I first arrived at Alfred.

Eli graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, while also earning five minors: Renewable Energy Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry and Dance. He appreciated Alfred University’s family atmosphere and was able to experience unique student-professor relationships that he knows he wouldn’t have acquired at other universities.

Eli especially thanks Dave Snyder, his supervisor at Herrick Library, and Chris Gause, his supervisor at the Center for Academic Success, as well as the many professors who have helped guide his path towards success. Eli aspires to earn a Master’s Degree in aerospace or aeronautical engineering. He plans to work for a space or aviation company as a design engineer, however he is also mindful that other opportunities may arise along his course and will continue to work hard in any of his endeavors.
