SUNY Excelsior Explained

Did you know that, as an Alfred University student, you have the unique potential to secure funding from several different sources? That’s because we are one of only two schools in New York State that can participate in the Excelsior Scholarship, the NYS STEM Incentive Program, and the Enhanced Tuition Assistance Program—along with our own institutional aid.

We encourage you to apply for funding through all available avenues. Check out the options below!

State Funding: Either Excelsior Scholarship or STEM Incentive Program

Qualifying students enrolled in the New York State College of Ceramics in either the School of Art & Design or a materials-based engineering program—Biomedical Materials Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Glass Science Engineering, and Materials Science—may apply for either the Excelsior Scholarship or the NYS STEM Incentive Program through the Higher Education Services Corporation.

Those students who receive funding may be awarded up to $6,470 for the 2017-2018 academic year, depending on what other sources of aid they’ve received.

State/University Funding: Enhanced Tuition Assistance

Students enrolled in the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and mechanical and renewable energy engineering majors may apply for Enhanced Tuition Assistance eligibility through the Higher Education Services Corporation.

After other sources of aid are factored in, the maximum award is $3,000—jointly paid by the state and the university.

Alfred University Funding: Grants and Scholarships

In addition to the supported options, we also offer institutional aid. No matter what your family’s income range may be, we hope you will apply for our grants and scholarships to help offset your tuition even further.

From our beginnings almost 200 years ago, Alfred University has always believed in, and nurtured, an inclusive environment. That philosophy extends to our enduring commitment to making our high-quality education accessible to all students who show promise.
