Richard MacDowell has taught and performed extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Before coming to the University of Texas at Austin, where he was Professor of Clarinet for over 20 years, he taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan. He is now retired from Texas and, for the past few years has been an adjunct at Ithaca College, and is presently the clarinet instructor at Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA, Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, and Binghamton, NY., as well as the principal  clarinetist of the Clinton and Catskill Symphonies. He has recently played with the Tri-Cities Opera Company, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the Finer Lakes Chamber Ensemble.

Richard is a “Buffet Artist”  for the Paris based Buffet Crampon woodwind manufacturers.
