Ashley Lyon: Super Real gallery walk through

Ashley Lyon will present a gallery walk through of her current exhibition, Super Real, on October 27 at 4:30pm in the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum. Super Real presents a collection of recent artworks, ranging from the colossal to intimate, by sculptor Ashley Lyon. Through scale, fragmentation, and touch, Lyon translates figures and objects into reflections of lived experience.

The exhibition will be on view through December 30, 2023

Ashley Lyon received an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011 and a BFA in Ceramics from the University of Washington in 2006. Lyon has been awarded residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the European Ceramic WorkCentre and Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. She is a 2023 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellow in Craft/Sculpture from The New York Foundation for the Arts and an Elizabeth Greenshields Grant recipient (2011 and 2014). She is currently an Associate Professor of Art at New Jersey City University and lives in Newburgh, NY.

The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, built with a gift from Marlin Miller, Jr., ’54, HD ’89, creates a signature building for the arts on the Alfred University campus. Located on Pine Street at the site of the old Davis Gym, the brick building with its sweeping expanses of glass and dramatic roof lines echoes the lines of the Miller Performing Arts Center and the Miller Theater, also designed by Architect Bruce Wood of Kallmann McKinnell and Wood Architects, Boston.
