Alfred University's Equestrian Programs offers a variety of class-room-based theory courses each semester on topics such as Equine Science, Equine Management, Methods of Teaching Riding, Hunter/Jumper Course Design, and Horse Show Judging. Quality riding instruction is offered in hunt seat, western, and dressage, with classes offered for all levels from beginner through advanced. Upper level courses in disciplines such as reining, reined cow horse, and combined training are also offered for more advanced riders.
Alfred University fields competitive hunt seat and western Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) riding teams and an Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) dressage team. All teams are fully funded and recognized by the University as varsity sports. All classes and other activities, including open horse shows and clinics, offered at the Equestrian Center are open to any student, regardless of their major or involvement with the equestrian program. Private and group lessons are also available for all levels of riders.
