Internships

An Internship is a supervised field experience that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent.

This experience can be either domestic or international. Internships may or may not include academic credit, they may or may not be paid, they can occur during the semester or over the summer, and the duration widely varies. An internship could be as few as five hours/week or full-time, especially during the summer months. Find out more about Internships.

Co-ops

An Alfred University co-op experience is a credit-bearing, formally recognized program integrating classroom learning and productive paid work experiences in a field related to a student's academic and career goals. Co-op consists of full-time work in industry or with a research organization for a period of 6-8 months, integrating theory and practice. Find out more about Co-ops.
