Jason Mullen

Jason P. Mullen is an ethnomusicologist, guitarist, and music producer. His work takes a critical approach to Music Industry Studies where he investigates the production and consumption of musical instruments and gear in the digital age. Jason P. draws upon his years of performing experience as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter to inform both his research and teaching. His grant-supported ethnographic fieldwork with American music producers has allowed him to work with analog and digital recording devices toward developing theories around their role in popular music. From 2010-2014 Jason P was a Composer-in-Residence with the Santa Fe Opera’s Active Learning Through Opera (ALTO) program. His academic work has been presented at the American Musicological Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology. Jason P. is a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at the University of Florida and Adjunct Instructor of Music at Alfred University where he co-directs the Popular Music Ensemble.
