Alfred University will welcome regional high school students to campus on Oct. 29 for an opportunity to explore electrical and renewable energy engineering through demonstrations, laboratory visits, and conversations with current engineering students in those fields.
he AUEnergy outreach event, hosted by the Inamori School of Engineering, New York State College of Ceramics, will introduce students to the technologies and academic programs at Alfred University that prepare engineers to address needs facing the modern grid – including microgrids, renewable energy sources, and power systems.
Students will participate in demonstrations in a number of AU labs, and explore current student research through a poster session and panel discussion featuring current graduate and undergraduate students.
Students also will be introduced to resources available at the Inamori School of Engineering including the GE Vernova Advanced Power Grid Lab, the Edibon Grid Simulation Lab, and the solar and wind energy laboratories.
Beyond the hands-on programming, the event will provide students with opportunities to connect with engineering students and learn about what life is like on the AU campus.
The outreach event is part of Alfred University’s broader AUEnergy Conference. Last hosted in 2025, the conference included speakers representing alumni, researchers, industrial partners, and faculty members in the energy sector. According to organizers, the larger AUEnergy conference will be held biannually, alternating with outreach programming focused on hosting high school students and potential undergraduates in the Inamori School of Engineering.
