Fall Favorites

Saxon Cafe

On the third floor of Powell Campus Center, Saxon Cafe serves Starbucks’ iconic menu with a unique Alfred twist. Of course, you can find Starbucks menu staples like frappuccinos, coffees, and refreshers, alongside local pastries from N’dulge, a bakery located just off Main Street.

During midterms, Saxon Cafe transforms into a bustling hot spot for students looking to fuel up for their next exam or long study session. At the end of a long day, unwind by taking a stroll with a seasonal pumpkin spice latte and a fresh pastry while taking in the crisp fall air and rolling hills of autumn colors.

Fiat Lux! Sign

Located at Alfred University’s quad, the Fiat Lux! sign is a hub for campus activity. Students can often be seen relaxing in the Adirondack chairs next to the sign, not far from the iconic statue of King Alfred himself. While the weather is still warm, students also enjoy lounging in hammocks around the quad.

As Halloween approaches, pumpkins add a festive touch and are left around the sign for students to pick themselves. Every year, the Center for Student Involvement and Student Activities Board hosts Festifall, Alfred University’s celebration of the season. In years past, students have enjoyed Festifall’s yummy treats, games, and live music.

Pine Hill Trail and Hairpin Turn

Overlooking Alfred University’s campus, Pine Hill Trail offers students a scenic escape right in their backyard. The trail starts next to Stull Observatory and ascends the hill before leveling out, making it an easy hike for anybody. The trail winds across the length of campus. Along the way, hikers are surrounded by trees with orange and red leaves still trickling off branches.

At the end of the trail, you’ll be greeted by Alfred’s most scenic overlook at Hairpin Turn. Here, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking view over the entire valley and an excellent spot to enjoy stunning sunsets.

Main Street

Just steps away from campus, Alfred’s historic Main Street offers plenty of fun fall activities. Stop by Terra Cotta Coffee House, a quaint spot to relax and study or catch up with friends over coffee. If you’re hoping for some fall thrifting, Baudelaire's is full of vintage clothes sure to match your style.

Fall is also the perfect time to go Christmas shopping, and Kindred Collective’s selection of pieces from local artists may be what you’re looking for. Or simply stroll down Main Street, a staple for Alfred students as the seasons change, while taking in views of the historic buildings, browsing local shops, and enjoying fall colors.

From beautiful campus views and scenic trails to favorite coffee shops and seasonal traditions, fall is the perfect time to experience Alfred University. And while the leaves may not last forever, the memories made here certainly can.
