Karino Wada

Karino Wada started violin and piano lessons under her parents at age two and half and currently studies the violin with Gerardo Ribeiro of Northwestern. Karino received several awards and scholarships since 2011, including Weber Scholarship and the Dolores L. Lewis Scholarship from the Eastman Community Music School. Karino is a co-concertmaster of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2016. The orchestra will be touring Spain and Portugal in March 2018.  In 2017, she won the Hochstein Youth Symphony Concerto Competition.

Karino performs the violin in the Olean Community Orchestra, Studio 107 Chamber Players (HS honor chamber ensemble - performing extensively at outside school venues), musical pit-orchestra, and the Olean High School Orchestra. She also performs the violin as a professional for home parties, weddings. In 2014 & 2015, she performed professionally in the MostArts Summer Music Festival Orchestra in Alfred. In August 2014, she was selected as the youngest student of the four-week summer orchestra study of the New York State Summer School of the Arts. She was also accepted to the 2015 camp and received the Dean L. Harrington Memorial Scholarship at the camp.

Karino performed as the concert mistress of the NYSSMA Zone 1 Junior High School Area All-State Festival Orchestra, assistant concert mistress (2016, 2017) at the Senior High School Area All-State Festival in 2016 & 2017, and was selected as a member of the NYSSMA Conference All-State Orchestra (1st violin 5th chair). Karino studied at the Young Artist Summer Program 2016 at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA. In the summer of 2017, she attended the Meadowmount School of Music where she studied under Professor Sally Thomas of Juilliard for 7 weeks. She is currently a double major in Economics and Violin Performance at Northwestern University.
