Perfect your imaginative writing skills

The Minor in Writing gives you, regardless of discipline, the opportunity to study the art and practice of imaginative writing. This minor is ideal if you have an interest in writing poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, or drama. The writing skills you'll develop in this minor help prepare you for a successful career in education, publishing, journalism, editing, or any profession with a writing component.

Success of Graduates

English Division graduates have gone on to competitive humanities PhD programs (UNC Chapel Hill, Johns Hopkins, George Mason, Tufts) and law and business schools. Other graduates have developed successful careers in teaching, publishing, financial services, and business consulting.

In order to earn a Minor in Writing, you must complete 8 credits that include a 200-level writing course and ENGL 328, The Language of Literary Art. He or she must also complete 12 credits of 400-level creative writing courses. Total: 20 credits.
