Alfred University students last week explored their future steps into the professional world through two events hosted recently by the Career Development Center: the Graduate and Professional School Fair on Sept. 18 and the fall Job and Internship Fair on Sept. 25. Altogether, the fairs drew more than 320 students representing more than 40 different majors.

Alfred University proudly launched its 190th academic year on Monday, August 25, as students returned for the start of the fall semester. With more than 450 new students, the incoming class is among the most notable in recent history. It includes the largest-ever cohorts of AU Scholars and participants in the AU Advantage Summer Bridge Program.

The awards were established in 2016 by Mark Zupan, university president, to honor people who bring distinction to Alfred University. The 2024 Fiat Lux! winners—Chris Boswell, director of athletic communications; Diana Maguire, associate professor of management and leadership; and the Cramp family of Hornell—exemplify Alfred University’s three core strengths: mentorship, intersections, and inclusivity.

Among the honorees were Angie Taylor, Chief Diversity Officer and Title IX Coordinator, who received the prestigious Abigail Allen Award, and students Brian Ngatunga and Emilia Donenberg Smith, winners of the Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Award.
