Alfred University holds special ceremony honoring three seniors on softball team

In winning the Empire 8 Conference tournament title last weekend, the Alfred University softball team qualified for the NCAA Division III championships. The four-team regional the Saxons are competing in at Tufts University outside Boston begins Thursday, May 14, and extends into the weekend, meaning the three seniors on the team will miss Commencement ceremonies set for Saturday.

Alfred University captures 2025-26 Alfred Cup

On Thursday, April 30, the Alfred University and Alfred State College athletic departments gathered in the shadow of the lone stoplight in the village to announce the result of the inaugural Alfred Cup competition. The year-long competition ended with Alfred University edging Alfred State by two points, 12-10.

Western equestrian team qualifies for national championships

The Alfred University western equestrian team placed fourth at last weekend’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Semi-Finals, hosted by Findlay (Ohio) University. The Saxons’ performance in the Semi-Finals show Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22, earned them a spot in the IHSA National Championships as one of the top 12 teams in the nation.

On Saturday, March 21, Alfred University will host the first home baseball games at the team’s new field at the Saxon Hill Sports Complex. The first game of the Empire 8 Conference doubleheader against Houghton University begins at noon.

Saxon Western and hunt seat equestrian teams win High Point honors at weekend regional championships

The Alfred University hunt seat and Western equestrian teams competed over the weekend in their respective Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) regional championships. The Saxons, who hosted the Western regional show on Saturday, March 7, and the hunt seat team, competing Sunday, March at Cornell University, both placed first to come away with High Point team titles.
