Alfred University Professor of English Susan Morehouse has won third place in the annual CRAFT Literary First Chapter Contest for her novel in progress A Tremendous Thing. The novel is set in West Virginia, where the protagonist, Lena, begins to build a new life after fleeing her parents’ home in Connecticut.

When Ken Luk, adjunct instructor in Alfred University’s division of Performing Arts, isn’t in a classroom, he frequently is making music with the Rochester classical music ensemble fivebyfive. The ensemble, entering its ninth year, plays modern chamber music, much of it written by composers writing specifically for the group.

Two courses for first-year students enrolled in the Alfred University College of Business are providing them valuable real-world business experience while also helping them to chart their academic and professional journeys. The classes—BUSI 105 (Business Perspectives) and BUSI 106 (Contemporary Business)—are mandatory first-year experience courses, taught by Dean Pauline Stamp in the fall and spring semesters, respectively.

Alfred University alumnae sisters of Sigma Chi Nu are raising funds to renovate the sorority’s house on Sayles Street in Alfred. The fundraising effort comes as the sorority plans this year’s celebration marking its 100th anniversary.

Allegany County Startup Collegiate Competition, held Saturday, April 6, on the Alfred University campus. A collaborative venture between Alfred University's Division of Psychology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT), and the Huntsville, AL-based EthAR LLC has been awarded a $275,000 Small Business Innovation Research grant to explore the use and value of augmented reality (AR) devices in the training of industrial work groups.

Alfred University to use $1.25 million in grant funding, software for renewable engineering training program

Alfred University has been awarded a $466,853 grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) which will support student internships and fund a program that provides short course training for renewable energy engineering students and workers in the electric utilities field. The University has also received a donation from GE Vernova of $786,000 in grid planning and operations software to support the NYSERDA-funded project.
